Created in 1979, Black Music Month celebrates the African American musical influences that are an essential part of our nation’s treasured cultural heritage.
Each June, NBAF hosts a tribute to a Black music icon, genre or movement, and connects it and its history to the larger artistic and cultural movements that it inspires.
NBAF welcomed the legendary Black Girls Rock!® to Atlanta with a Black Music Month programming partnership celebrating Black women artists!
NBAF also partnered with Marta Artbound to present 2 days of pop-up concerts in the West End and Five Points Marta stations, featuring dynamic local artists of diverse genres pushing Black music forward! These concerts were free to the public with Marta entry.
The NBAF and Black Girls Rock!® headlining SOULREBELROCK concert took place on Wednesday, June 19th, at Center Stage Theater. This dynamic ticketed event featured performances by cutting-edge and dynamic artists representing diverse Black alternative music disciplines.
