NextGenArtists Program and Showcase

NBAF’s NextGenArtists program is a new signature program that launches in 2016 with the aim of nurturing the creativity and supporting the talent and professional development of emerging artists of African descent as a core value of NBAF’s mission. The target participants are high school students, primarily juniors, and seniors. NBAF will provide the selected students a structured program of workshops, lectures, apprenticeships, mentoring, competitive scholarships, business and professional development workshops/classes –transformational experiences that recognize, nurture and feature their unique talent in all creative disciplines and industries, including the performing arts, theater, literary and visual arts, film, multimedia, digital media, fashion, etc.

Through the NextGenArtists program students will learn to present, market, promote and potentially sell their work during the Showcases. The participants will attend an intensive “boot camp” during which they will learn to strengthen their craft, their presentation, writing and communication skills. And they will be given the tools to learn about and advance in the industry. NBAF provides the bridge that crosses the students into the next stage of their development, leading potentially to acceptance into a specialized school or program at a college and university and to access to jobs in the industry.

Threaded together our Move/Dance! project and NextGenArtists program offers a path forward from middle school to high school to college through programs that sparks, supports, and nurtures the creative aspirations of our youth, especially those in underserved communities and that are living in challenging financial circumstances.
