Visual Arts Participants

Launched in 2011, the First Glance Teen Visual Arts Competition provides an opportunity for young visual artists to create original mixed media works on canvas and paper as well as photography which demonstrates a unique vision, artistic proficiency and technical acumen.  This component of the competition encourages young people to create images that interpret not only their day to day lives but the world as they view it.  Open to all students aged 14-18 internationally, visual arts submissions will be judged on artistic excellence, technical merit, composition, visual impact and how well the theme is integrated into the overall concept of the work.

Specifications:

  • Dimensions: Work must be no smaller than 12″ X 18″ and no larger than 24″ X 30″
  • Only two-dimensional works will be accepted (e.g., works on paper, canvas and cloth)
  • Any medium accepted (including crayon, acrylic, gouache, watercolor, oil pastel, tempera, print, colored pencil, chalk pastel, mixed media, collage, pen, ink, papier mache and marker)
  • Photography is accepted
  • All artwork must be original work, not copied from photographs or published works
  • Work MUST interpret the theme “Connect, Inspire, Transform”

How to Submit:

  • Must be digitally photographed or scanned (and not digitally modified in any way), saved as a 300 dpi JPG file, no smaller than 1 megabyte and no larger than 10 megabytes.
  • Files should be saved in RGB color mode.
  • The file should be saved with the artist’s last name and emailed to nbaffirstglance@gmail.com by the April 15, 2012 submission deadline.
  • If selected as a winner, the original artwork will be required for the duration of any exhibit, up to six months.

Finalists will be selected by a juried panel of artists and members of the artistic community at large. All finalists will be notified as images advance to the final rounds.  Finalists will be screened and judged at the FIRST GLANCE FINALS in July 2012.
