Created in 1979, Black Music Month celebrates the African American musical influences that are an essential part of our nation’s treasured cultural heritage. Each June, NBAF will host a tribute to a Black music icon, genre or movement and connect it and its history to the larger artistic and cultural movements that it inspires.

NBAF's Black Music Month program, Rapper's Delight: 50 Years of Hip Hop, celebrated one of America’s most influential Black cultural movements with a block party style immersive event that merges music, technology, art, video installations, and live music to honor 50 years of culture!
