“A Brown Tale,” Penumbra Theater Production
The Minnesota-based Penumbra Theatre, one of the oldest in the country, was invited to celebrate its milestone 40th anniversary in Atlanta with a signature play. After a decade of development and several incarnations, the actor James T. Alfred and longtime collaborator Lou Bellamy, founder of Penumbra Theatre and director/producer, teamed up for the presentation of the one-man show, A Brown Tale, which received its first full production at Penumbra Theatre, opening its inaugural Claude Edison Purdy Individual Artist Festival.
A Brown Tale is a comedic coming-of-age narrative of a young African-American male from the south side of Chicago. The tapestry of stories woven together creates the journey through Alfred’s childhood to adult life. This rollicking story explores the impact that community has on an individual’s personal development.
