Author Gillian Royes sits down with Malaika Adero, Senior Editor at Atria Books/Simon & Schuster to discuss her book, The Goat Woman of Largo Bay. This book begins the detective series featuring Shad, a bartender in a fishing village in Jamaica, who is the community problem solver and right hand of Eric, an American who owns the bar and a hotel left in ruins by a hurricane. When Shad sees movement on the island offshore, he thinks it’s just a goat. But it turns out to be much more. Royes wonderfully blends suspense and the soul of the islands in this smart debut.
A personal mantra of “Leave no stone unturned” has led the Jamaican born Gillian Royes to a life of adventure in five countries. It was not her intention to become a writer, although she was a prolific journal-keeper from a young age. But after being an editor, an entrepreneur, a corporate executive, a communications consultant, a project manager and a university lecturer, the only occupation left to her was writing.
She currently lives in the US Virgin Islands where she writes and teaches journalism. The gorgeous Caribbean sea is within sight every day.
